The CBS 60 Minutes segment followed reporter Lesley Stahl as she traveled to the Kalahari Deserts of South Africa to investigate the wild stories circulating about a Succulent "Cactus" eaten by native Bushmen for hundreds of years. It had been reported that the eating of Hoodia Gordonii could stave off hunger and this discovery was attracting the interest and deep pockets of major pharmaceutical companies and being touted as a breakthrough discovery.

Q. What is Hoodia?
Known as Hoodia Gordonii or "Hoodia" for short, Hoodia is a Succulent botanical which resembles a "cactus" and is part of the Genus: Trichocaulon and belongs to the Family Name: Asclepiadaceae.

We import 100% Hoodia Gordonii powder from an exporter in Cape Town, South Africa. Hoodia Gordonii

with a Official C.I.T.E.S issued by Cape Nature of

Q. What type of Hoodia do you use?
We use the one and only authentic hoodia gordonii
available on the market which is 100% Hoodia
goprdonii powder made of grinding up the Hoodia
plants "fingers". Being authentic we pay between
$250-$300/kg and must comply with all USDA, FDA, US
Customs and FWA regulations concerning the import of

Q. I thought Hoodia was owned by one company and not commercially available?
This is absolutely incorrect. Hoodia has been around since God created the Heavens and the Earth. It has been used for thousands of years by tribes like the San Bushmen of the Kalahari.
Several years ago a group of South African Scientists discovered that the plant contained a previously unknown molecule, which they dubbed "P57".
They sold the rights to their research to the British Pharmaceutical company called Phytopharm (see source). which developed a extract of the plant and began clinical trials.
In 1998, the Pfizer corporation took interest in the product and reportedly paid in the neighborhood of up to $32 million for the right to the research from Phytopharm. (see source).
Word has it that they backed out at some point and the rights reverted back to Phytopharm who continues to pursue developing a commercial extract of Hoodia Gordonii.
The Hoodia Gordonii plant can take several years to grow and because it is a rare plant which grows in the wild, a number of growers saw the commercial potential in this plant and setup farms whereby they began to commercially develop the rare plant in order to be able to provide sustainable quantities of the material to consumers.
We work with licensed exporters of Hoodia Gordonii who work under permit from the South African Government.
Q. What ingredients are used in Desert Burn ®?
100% Hoodia Gordonii Powder which is encapsulated into 750mg capsules, 60 to a bottle.
There are two minor trace ingredients which are present in 99% of all Nutritional Supplements which are added in a very minute amount as excipients.

Watch the video special and what is sampled on camera is not a single pill but a large portion of the actual Hoodia Gordonii "finger" also known as stems. This sample amounted to several grams and so it is preposterous and plain insane to think or believe a claim made by many that taking one or two small 400-500mg capsules is going to produce any real effects.
